Here's my very long-term project. The car was disassembled around 1980 and left outside since. Preservation methods were used for the chassis, but the body was left to the elements. Sadly, few if any wood is salvageable and most the tub sheet metal will need to be replaced.

First step was to sort and stow the parts. Second step was draining the engine oil and transmission. Thankfully, water was detected during draining. The engine cylinders are receiving a Kroil soak. Hopefully this will free the engine so I can rotate it by hand.

I removed the engine and transmission from the chassis. After I remove the suspension and rear axle I'll begin cleaning the chassis. I'm emotionally prepared for an engine rebuild. I think sorting the chassis and driveline will be easy compared to what's waiting in the shadows- expensive parts purchases. I figure if I get this done within 10 years, I'll be ahead of schedule.

Enjoy the photos. Feel free to comment parts ID. At this point I have to reference parts catalog illustrations to ID the parts. I'd like to sell what I don't need but am afraid to let anything go at this stage.

As I said in your other post - good luck with the restoration. A lot of work there... smile

The only Morgan I have ever seen with triple electrics smile

Your "Ten-year-plan" seems realistic to me unless you farm out a lot of work. If not you may be able to keep the budget lower than it seemed at first sight.

Do you have the chassis nr.? If so, make contact with the factory. They will provide you with a copy of the bulid sheet. If no chassis nr. try it with the engine and gearbox nrs.

Good luck!

Frank

The car was told to be a '63 or '65. The chassis numerically ahead of mine is registered as 1960. I'll eventually order a chassis record and settle most doubts.

There isn't much I won't be tackling myself on this project. Engine machining and specialized component rebuilding are likely to be what I farm. I'll do everything else, which means a fair sum of installing catalog/catalogue bought parts.

I have got to take my hat off to you for taking on this project, it looks a lifetimes worth of work. On the upside though, the 2 eared wheelspinners look in excellent order, that should save you at least 10 minutes.

Nothing like having a few spares, just in case, Frank! wink

I see 4 Lucas voltage/current regulators... Wonder how many are correctly set!

Cheers,

If you have a chassis number, the Morganville site will give you a good indication of the year.

I think that the inlet manifold and the strombergs on the engine are also a clue, but others with more knowledge than me will know. Looks like you may have spares from another 2/3 cars if the water pumps, fuel pumps (and carbs) are anything to go by!

Best of luck with the build. If you don't create time pressure for yourself I'm sure it will be very enjoyable and satisfying.

... and if you don't already have them, 'A Yank at Malvern' and Fred Sisson's 'Bedside Reader' are entertaining and very useful for owners of the early plus 4s

According to the registry, the preceding chassis is registered as a 1960. The transmission is 1964. The previous owner said it was a '65. The engine is not original to the car, it's TR4 CT60xxxE serial. The engine donor was a Triumph TR4 of unknown year.
I'll probably sell both Stromberg systems to fund rebuilding the H6. Since the other duplicate parts don't occupy much space I'll probably save/rebuild them for spare use.

There are no time constraints on this project because I don't have a money tree. I believe that within a year, my time and budget will allow refreshing the chassis, driveline, brake, and fuel system. The build will be stalled until I save funds for purchasing a new body and other Mog-specific items.

Thanks for the book recommendations. They'll soon be added to my library.
