I bought one of Cain’s (Wolf Performance) chassis cross member rub plates at the Thrill on the Hill event. Great piece of kit. I tried to install it at home last week but could not get enough clearance underneath using axle stands, so I had to find an alternative solution.
I found a small outfit, about an hour and a half from home, which offers a number of work bays to rent by the hour. I booked a bay with a four post car lift for two hours, 18 pounds per hour and went down this morning to drill the holes to fit the rub plate. I am glad I did, the car lift makes the job so much easier from below. Whilst the car was up there I was able to do a spanner check, oil the rear springs and touch up the under seal.

The place I went to is called ‘This is your garage’ and is located south of Abingdon at Culham. It is run by enthusiasts. Potential for a TM meet later in the year.

That’s a great idea
Will have to see if there is similar near me
How does it work actually getting your Mog safely on the lift? Does someone help you or are you left completely to your own devices

Hi Stewart, the guys guide you onto the ramp. They were looking underneath to ensure nothing is going to touch. Once on the ramp, they got me to move it he car forward so that the entry ramps did not touch the rear of the car when the ramp is raised.
The guys went through some health and safety with me before showing me how to raise and lock and how to lower the ramp. They preferred to be asked to help rather that me struggle.
They also guided me off the ramp and once again watched underneath to ensure nothing touched.

I looked into renting car lifts when I first got the Morgan. The two around my area, one near Bromsgrove had already closed and another in Coventry changed over to become a regular garage for servicing cars. Some my conclusion is if these places aren’t used we loose them.

Yes I think someone mentioned one in Bromsgrove on this forum a couple of years ago

Sad that it’s closed. I assume it’s only going to be classic car owners that are going to use these facilities so it’s a quite limited customer base

I’d be there every nearly every Saturday if there was one near me

I can see myself going down at least once a year just to check and top up the under seal, check and top up gearbox and axle level. All I would need would be to book up for an hour job done.

Craig, at present their cafe is not open. The guys are working to get that resolved.
Once the cafe is open, I will see what interest there is on here to set up a meet.
