Have seen quite a number of the 35th anniversary models here in Auckland, in fact more than I saw at Mog 18 All morgans day and LMC18, so maybe the factory knocked a few extra export models out. Maybe I agree with cerealsurfer too ....

If you can find one, the Le Mans edition is really the one to go for. They come complete with the iconic white hard top and are all painted green. I think Morgan did 50 each of the 4 and 8 cylinder ones.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

All 35th Anniversary cars use the 4.0 River V8 with the rather complex GEMS ignition and fuelling control. This does give better fuel consumption and slightly more torque, but it is quite complex and is prone to electronic gremlins.
The earlier long door cars 1997 to 2002 use the 3.9 River V8 engine with the less complex “Hotwire” system controlling the fuelling only, and a distributor for ignition. This is a much simpler system and arguably is better suited to the Morgan application.
However as is always the case I would still buy any Morgan based on condition. Beware of cars that have too low mileage. These cars need exercise, not years in a garage.

I have driven the 3.9 V8 back to back with a 4.0. They seemed the same to drive. However: Complexity? On this I am not qualified to comment. "GOMOG" has information on this.

Well, 50 for purchase. The first one, of 51 (number 000 of 050), is a factory owned car. Sorry Ian, I shall get out of pedant mode Clash of the Titans???

I've arranged to look at a Plus 8 Anniversary (35th year) with a view to purchase -(my first Morgan) - and wonder if anybody knows to what numbers production was limited. Any other comments or advice before I view would be most welcome. Good luck with your trial and or choosing of the 35th jong .

Andy, My +8 is 2001 and is yet with the 4.0 Rover V8 Lucas Sagem Electronic system (same as 2003 - 35th Anniversary). I think the change from the Hotwire at MMC was in 2000.

I have a U.S version 35th Anniversary edition and was told when I bought the car from the original owner that there were 105 made. I don't know if he was accurate or not.
My car has the GEMS system and so far two related problems. One was a failure of the mass air flow sensor. The car will still run, but barely. Easy fix as long as you're not out in the middle of nowhere like I was. The other is the continual problem with the imobilizer not wanting to communicate with the engine management computer, it cranks but no start. I have had it reset but shortly the problem returns. Cycle the ignition switch 3 times and it starts every time. I know some other 35th edition owners and they have never experienced the problem.
Otherwise it has been a great car. Gas mileage has been 28 - 30 miles per U.S. gallon on the highway.
