This past weekend during a 5 hour long local club fall color tour along various roads and speed ranges, I had the opportunity to really try out the Morgan since changing the exhaust and ECU, and what a difference! After ditching the Stage one pipes a month or so ago in favor of a home brewed straight through system with 2" pipe ahead of the resonator and 1 7/8" behind, I was much happier with the quality of the sound (still a bit loud, though!). Engine seemed happier as well, behaving better on light throttle in particular. But the big change came when I replaced the ECU with an unlocked unit from Garage 56. After 3 iterations of driving the car about 50-75 miles then merging the base injector map with the adaptive map (using S&S's free software), the car is now so much more pleasant to drive. It can now "walk" away from a standstill and potter around at low speed, then accelerates cleanly up to the rev limit. Easier to heel/toe as the engine responds nicely to even minor throttle blips. No more hesitation/bucking on throttle application after coasting either. Much more civilized all around, especially in traffic. No data to back it up, but performance seems moderately improved as well. Data I do have is that exhaust temp measured near the head is down about 30 degrees F when measured at hot idle with an infrared temp gun, so it appears the mixture might be richer at idle. No apparent soot in the pipes after 400 miles, however.
What's the UK word? Chuffed.

Weather forecast for today is 38F and sunny. Doable for a 1-hr. drive to visit my beloved 18-month old 'Griff pup who's away at a 'hunting dog boot camp' for etiquette training. Perfect opportunity to test the results of my Dynamat Xtreme project. I went with the 36 sq. ft. (.37 sq. meter) box of nine sheets and used all but 1.5 of them so far: under the cargo tray, behind seats, floor boards, inside the tunnel, 80% coverage of the interior-outside panels (can any human being actually reach all the way forward?!) and the ceiling above legs. Cocomats are on order to line the interior. The remaining Dynamat will be applied to the interior-inside panels once I'm sure the carpet conforms properly.

I suspect the dynamat helped, at least tio tighten everything up. But the big surprise was how well the new style, taller windscreen aids in the cold and wind. Not only could I see directly through it but even at speeds of 75+mph, it did a great job of redirecting the headwind. As such, a wool cap and goggles were sufficient for warmth. The shorter screen would have required a full face helmet.

Anyone know of a good way to mount a flag behind the seats? Looks like that French flag is mounted pretty neatly. Asking to know for when my team wins the World Cup...
