Sad person though I am, I really can't get excited by somone who seems obsessed by endlessly redesigning Bugatti Atlantics, ruining the lines of old watches and wants to frame the coveralls he wore when he helped spray a trad so that it looked like a pile of G*d knows what
In marked contrast, some of TM's readers may be aware that the great Derek Gardner died recently. He will always be remembered for one car above all others- the six-wheeler P34 Tyrell. So, if you want a nostalgia rush, try this:

(Ok, I admit I chose it because was a climb video)
Cheers,
G

Brilliant G, love the serious twitch he had on one corner! shocked2

I'm just reading Bernie's biography by Prof Sid Watkin's wife, so currently knee-deep in nostalgia so this is particularly apposite. cheers flag

Fabulous tribute to Derek, I was lucky enough to see the P3/4's in action on the Nurburgring in 1976, they were quite a sight, Jody Scheckters car had big windows in the side of the cockpit which afforded a great view of his arms as he man handled his car into second place behind Master Hunt after my own hero Niki Lauda came to grief at Bergwerk and the race was restarted.

This just got me checking a book I have - Guinness Guide to Motor Racing - came with a package |I bought at an auction - main part were MG books/manuals/parts lists etc.
In the book 1976 section starts with a photo of the P34driven by Jodie Schekter who got a win in it i think

There is an excellent article in February's Motor Sport by Andrew Frankel who drives a P34 (It also has a photo of it on the cover titled "When F1 was Radical".

Whilst he says that Scheckter was, and remains to this day, dismissive of the P34, it was Depailler who urged it on. As enthusiasts of the era know, it was none of the P34's apparent shortcomings that were responsible for its downfall, but that it was let down by its Goodyear tyres and their lack of development.

I won't give any more away as it is worth buying Motor Sport just for this article, excellent stuff indeed. coffee

G, that is a great video and one that anyone with petrol in their veins couldn't fail to love.

I remember reading somewhere that the 6-wheel configuration wasn't as successful as they had hoped; however, seeing that video, I wonder if it was too successful and it was forced out due to rule changes?

Jody won in Sweden, Jody and Patrick between them scored 8 2nds on their way to third & 4th in the WDC and taking Tyrrell to third in the WCC in 1976.
