As a clutch pedal, by design and function, goes straight down to the floor, I cannot imagine how it can feel “spongy”. Also, did you mean “does seem to be brake fluid on the piston” rather than “doesn’t”? Apart from that, if it’s all working ok, I wouldn’t go looking for problems that may not exist.

Thanks for coming back to me!! Everything LOOKS fine, but it feels different - it used to feel linear in pressure as you depressed it, but now it feels a bit spongy (as in it would need bleeding in the old fashioned days) before the pressure feels right. The first 1/3 of travel feels almost non existent in terms of pressure and then it feels like it should. it is working , but I know it isnt right and I'm expecting a gear change problem at any time!! (Probably in the middle of the Dartford tunnel or somewhere embarrassing!!).

Just a thought...Does it happen to have a pedal return spring that may be fractured? Not always obvious in the dark depths.

Me too they do fail Though I have to say on my 3.7l the spring is incredibly strong so if it broke it would be obvious.

No!!! i already checked - I was hoping it would be that too. Because that is exactly how it feels - but there is no sign of one. My +4 had that and I remember having to wind a new spring onto the pedal assembly. the problem is sometimes it feels fine and other times is feels soft

So, assuming your hydraulic system isn’t leaking...I googled how to bleed a mustang clutch and there are several videos and sites on offer. It seems the general principle is to use a hand held vacuum pump and apply a vacuum of about 20 lbs to the master cylinder system and hold it for a few minutes, to extract as much air as possible. Then operate the clutch pedal at least a dozen times in quick succession by pressing it to the floor then slipping your foot off to allow it to fly back up. If it were me, not having a vac pump handy, I would try the clutch pedal operations first to see if any improvement. Hope this helps.

RD&G, as your car is 2016 and probably never had it's clutch fluid changed I'd start with that, my cheat shortcut is described above
