I am about to remove the two stuck on union flag badges from my bonnet. They are the nasty plastic ones which are very faded and cracked. After a quick google it would seem that dental floss is a way of lifting the badge and I have ordered a can of "sticky stuff remover" to hopefully clean up the residue.
My question is, should I apply some heat to the badge to aid removal and does anybody know of a source of quality badges which are self stick but made of metal and properly enamelled.
Thanks in advance folks.

I’d definitely heat it up to soften the adhesive and use the dental floss

Use a hairdryer to soften the glue. Dribble either white spirit or Wd40 down the back. Floss works but will leave some residue which will come off with either of the above.

MSCC sell flag badges. If you buy from e bay quality varies. Some have imitation screws.

There are two sizes, and I prefer the larger size. I think mine came from Heart of England....I'll check.

Just looked, but I can't get the image to zoom. The ones I use come with dummy screws which I don't like, so cut off and polish the edges...……...

I have a can of stuff I bought from a plumbing supplies place, which they sell for getting stickers off sanitary ware.

It's called MYKAL DE-SOLV-IT fast dry precision cleaner.

It's absolutely brilliant for removing stickers and gluey residue, though I have to caution that I've never tried it on car paintwork.

John,

I removed two stuck on badges from one of my Morgans by heating with a hairdryer and slowly peeling back. The adhesive came off with the badge by keeping it very warm and what remained I removed with normal polish. It will depend on the adhesive used on the badge but hopefully it will be as simple as mine was.

Auto- finesse do stuff called oblit Tar ate. - gets rid of tar but also sticky stuff and does not damage the paint if used as directed. My stick on badges are from MSCC shop - online & no need to be a member to buy. Really good quality and sticks like wotsit to a blanket so make sure you position correctly before removing the backing paper as once they are on- that`s it.

Thank you all for your advice and recommendations it has given me the courage to give it a go, a task that I was not looking forward to.
I must remember, however, to put my heat gun on its lowest setting.
