I saw that thread. it certainly wouldn't be hard to open up behind the faux radiator grill which would introduce air flow to the oil tank. although the engine and jug fan also are in the way.

Can a better combined oil/engine cooling solution be found if the factory 'urban cooling kit' is removed and something substituted?

I kind of doubt it. The jugs get hot fairly quickly, long before the oil is hot. The urban cooling was happening long before the oil bypass to the oil cooler even happened.

I would have to look at the space, but if right behind the faux grill the bulkhead piece was remove/modified, a small radiator type fan could be installed forcing air past the oil canister which would dissipate out the side vents.

Remember air can only go in if the air can go out as easily as it went in, there has to be negative pressure even with a fan. If you create the correct air flow, why would you need a fan the velocity of going forward would drive air through bonnet space and cool the tank.

I agree. When you are moving, hopefully openings behind the faux grill would allow air to be pushed in. I would speculate that the side vents and opening under the tank (transmission) would allow enough air to flow out.

A heat activated fan would certainly create positive flow forcing air out the vents and transmission area. This would be a plus at low speeds/traffic/etc. Just thinking out loud, but at below 10 mph you would have the engine fan blowing air forward, and right behind it a fan blowing air backwards. Hmmmmm.

You are correct, the urban fan blows air forward.
Has anyone measured the temperature at the front of the cowl/faux grill? And compared that to cylinder or oil temps?

so you got me thinking how I would do it to fan cool the oil tank (she always says she hopes my OCD stays intact before my ADHD kicks in...

with the bonnet off you can see there is ample room to where the shield behind the faux grill begins for a mini fan. especially if it were attached to the shield, however that would require a quick disconnect every time you remove the bonnet. or make a bracket and attach to the tank mounting system. I see around the transmission plenty of place for the air to escape


there is space between the engine cooler and the faux grill the question would be whether the large engine fan would overwhelm a fan behind the grill


All in all the other down side is you would always be drawing air that has been warmed by the engine

I'm not convinced with size of fan you are talking about that air would be forced down around the transmission, especially when the vehicle is moving. Air movement under the vehicle will act like a blanket as in the 4 wheel Morgans. As you say the air that will be drawn in is nicely heated by the engine which seems counterproductive.

the more I toy with the idea the more I think you are right. I would stick with how I put the cooler on in the first place

Would there be a way to draw in cool air on one side of the bonnet and expell it on the opposite side? That would keep the engine heat as far away as possible and not have the exhaut, from the cooling fan, interfere. An air scoop on one side and a reverse scoop on the exhaust side.
