Just want to throw out an idea to see if there is interest. Just South of Front Royal is Rappahannock Cellars winery (my wife and I are members of their wine club). We could arrange for a group wine tasting (I would have to check on what they charge). They make excellent wine! and there is a picnic area out front as well. We could make arrangements for something Saturday late morning if there is interest.

The down side for the two of us is I have to be back in Blacksburg at 4 pm for the graduation of our Family Practice Residents (I am the program director). We could certainly lead people to the winery, but we would have to leave right away.

Another outing people might consider would be a short drive to Sperryville to the Copper Fox Distillery (the drive down the hill from the parkway is REALLY fun). They do a great tour and make a great single malt whisky that rivals many single malts.

I might add, if anyone wishes to park a tow vehicle/trailer in a safe neighborhood, we are 3 hours south in Christiansburg/Blacksburg. 3 hours is by freeway (I81 to a short cut to HWY 33), however you could go over to the blue ridge from Christiansburg or up through Roanoke, but then you better double the time.
Entering on Hwy 8 outside of Christiansburg (Tuggles gap)you are at mile marker 165.
Entering from Hwy 220 in Roanoke you are at mile marker 121
The lodge is about mile 42

Thank you for the kind offer to a fellow Morganeer. I'm looking at the logistics of the expedition, and look forward to meeting you.
Perhaps I could leave an application to your program. 😃
Regards,

Tom

This is going to be fun, folks! The sooner we have a guestimated headcount and beer vs. wine vs. shine preferences, we'll plan the venues.

So if you're coming, please post! I'll eventually report back with hotel registration tallies. Everyone knows that people tend to wait until the last 60-45 days.

so here is a link of Skyland lodge to Sperryville (copper fox distillery) and Huntly (Rappahannock cellars winery). Never have figured out how to screen shot something like this

UPDATE: Spoke with the folks at Rappahannock Cellars and can do a tour of their facility and wine tasting for $14.50 per person. It is only 33 miles, but about a 50 minute drive.

If we left around 9:30 or so, Beth and I could lead people there for the tasting/tour. They have a really nice picnic area which would be an option for lunch. On the way back people might want to stop at the copper fox distillery in Sperryville. Unfortunately we would have to leave right after getting people there as I need to be in Blacksburg by 4 pm.

Let me know if anyone is interested. wine

Rodger - we're tentatively planning to reserve early Friday morning for and hour or so of 'technical sessions' before heading out for the day.

It's flexible. We could also do that in the later afternoon upon returning or on Saturday morning.

Normally I can get out of work before noon on Friday so we were planning on arriving late afternoon (that way I do not have to take a day of PTO) let me run it by SWMBO on whether I will just take the whole day off
