I don’t know when it became standard to remove the wings before painting the car. Again, our 1985 car had wing beading fitted - which was optional and ensured that the wings were removed for painting. Any car without wing beading, of any vintage, could have been painted with the wings on - which leads to corrosion issues. I don't think this is quite right: the cars that were painted with the wings on had beading but everything was assembled before they were painted, so that the tell-tale sign is that the beading is also painted.

It’s not a decision you want to rush into so you’re doing the right thing by asking questions and looking around. Thanks for the heads up on that Steve L. Dunstan Hall is only a few minutes away from me around the Norwich bypass. No excuse to miss it!

Just checked “Morgan: First and Last of the Real Sports Cars” by Gregory Houston Bowden - pictures of factory processes show the paint shop and the car in the booth is being painted wings on with no sign of wing beading around 1985.

Cuprinol treatment of the ash frame was standard from 1986 IIRC. It was optional for a few years before - our first Morgan was from 1985 and the original build sheet showed that Cuprinol had been applied at extra cost.

My car was built in May 1986 and wasn't Cuprinol dipped. It did have wing beading fitted, but was originally painted with the wings on so the beading was painted over.

My car was built in May 1986 and wasn't Cuprinol dipped. It did have wing beading fitted, but was originally painted with the wings on so the beading was painted over.
That is a new one on me. Mike Duncan told me that our 1st Morgan (1985 4/4) had been ordered with wing beading so that it was painted wings off. The beading did not have paint on it. However, by the time we got the car at 18 years old, it had been re-painted so no way of knowing.

I see the door hinges are also painted. I had put that down to the re-paint on our 1985 car.

You can clearly see the beading. I don't suppose you could post a scan of the photo from your later book? I'd be interested to see it.
