So I replaced the radiator on my duratec plus 4 with an aluminium one - it's a long story but I bought it off another owner secondhand.

However, I'm getting a leak from the big top hose. I have tightened it as far as I dare. I wonder if I have gone too far.... is that possible (I used a small socket set just to get in there).

Any tips for getting it to seal before I take it off and have a good look? It's all very annoying as I tightened it up a bit after noticing the leak and I have definitely made it worse. And I am about to go on holiday so will be thinking about this all holiday!!!

Thanks
Nick

I had the same trouble with the alloy radiator on Possum after I installed Evans Waterless Coolant, which seems to find every little orifice. Cured it with Radweld. I would not overtighten the clamp. Are you sure the hose itself is not porous?

Thanks. Well the hose was fine on the previous radiator. I'm wondering if a turn or two of amalgamating tape before fitting the hose might help.

Old tired rubber.

Replace it if you can for piece of mind.

There have been a lot of threads on this "problem" and many have had slight leaks when changing from original rads to new aluminium rads.

I had the same on my Zetec and to this day I get a very slight weeping especially on very cold days when the aluminium seems to contract a bit.

Although mine was annoying, it seems to have settled down now and the water loss is negligible.

I changed to silicone hoses at the same time.

Richard knows his stuff thumbs this helps to equalise the distortion of the rubber as the clamp is tightened
