Living in northern US most of my life, I know that even though the roads are clear and dry, they still have the residue of the salt or calcium chloride on them and it gets into every little nook and cranny.
I too have take a quick motorcycle ride on a clear winter day, but I pay for it later when trying to clean out all of the salt residue on the bike.
I normally wait until we've had a couple good rains after the last road treatment.
I'm sure you don't care and just said do it, but thought I would throw it out there for others that may want to wait until after a couple good rains to wash the crap off the roads. Are you not an ACF 50 fan?

Road chemicals are not good for anything, even your lungs.

Are you not an ACF 50 fan? Never heard of ACF-50 until just now. It reads that it's used to stop already existing corrosion, but I would imagine that it may prevent as well. But my issue with the road residue is that it's just a real pain in the arse to clean up afterwards. AND it will lead to corrosion if it gets to bare metal of any kind, including engine cases and transmissions. Kind of hard to clean some of these areas without a hoist and pressure washer. But in the case of the M3W hitting it with a pressure washer from underneath, you may end up with an interior full of water...

The galvanic corrosion between the aluminum skin and the steel frame will accelerate with the addition of road salts. It will get in there and will be next to impossible to remove. Also be aware that many of the rivets and bolts are regular steel instead of stainless which would have been a much better way to do it but due to expense...
I drove the M3W twice in December the year I bought it. It hadn't snowed in weeks but the fine talc like salts were on the road and hadn't been washed off due to rain. Every time a car drives on the road the wind it creates kicks up a cloud of this crap. Your head is barely a meter off the road and you'll breathe it in. I was coughing for days clearing that crud out!
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

good old galvin..... zinc being the sacrificial lamb for ferrous products....
In February of 2015 we moved from Northern Virginia back to Oklahoma in the midst of a wicked snowstorm. We had two motorcycles on an open trailer and they were incased in salty, grimey road ice..... yuck

We had two motorcycles on an open trailer and they were incased in salty, grimey road ice..... yuck A friend of mine had a BMW R70 that he bought used from someone that lived on Cape Cod. The salty air did a number on the motor and the aluminum fins looked like they'd been blasted and pitted! Between the corrosion where bimetal joins are present as well as having a solid aluminum motor out front where it catches everything, there are many reasons to avoid this crud and just wait for good weather to come. My Blau Beastie is locked in a box for six months and, as frustrating as it is, I wait it out. The damage is just not worth it.

Dan I totally agree to wait for the roads to be washed with a few really good spring rains before venturing out with the M3W or any of your other fun vehicles.
06032 it’s really good to read your Mike Lempert steering wheel is nearly finished already. Looking forward to seeing a picture of it.

First "real" drive today in my M3W today! I bought a low mileage 2013 at the end of November last year and it got the needed upgrades this winter. I got it home in February but it's been so cold, rainy, or snowy that I've not driven it but a short distance. Temps were in the upper 30's today but sunny, so my wife and I bundled up and took it out for about an hour. Great fun! I guess I've had enough Lotus/Caterham/Zenos cars that I felt right at home in the M3W. I'm looking forward to warmer weather to put some more miles on it! BTW, the biggest learning I had to do was learn how to correctly straddle potholes! Thanks to everyone on the forum for all the great posts on ownership! They've guided me through all the modifications!
