now that I see how Emil has done it, I might very well put my cooler under the bonnet. Easy access to the oil line and with the ultracool fan, you are not reliant on passive air flow from movement, albeit with less cooling as the heat must then dissipate from the bonnet.

Even that, I am really tempted to use that kind of bypass and eliminate the one I used at the oil filter... well after this riding season is over

Just had a look Merlin Motorsport and they do an in line Landrover Discovery V8 EFI fuel pump.

I wonder if this could be used instead of the in tank one.

Rodger, call Emil. No one likes to talk and experiment with the stuff more than he does. Between the two of you, I think you'll solve world peace. He's quite the character and has a world of experience in this area. I'd love to hear the consensus.

Emil reached out to S&S and used their input to make sure he got it right. Maybe over engineered but bullet proof it looks like so no worries about burning up the engine. More useable horsepower too.

So I am revamping it. The oil filter bypass is coming off and I got a earl's in line bypass from Summit racing. A bit pricey (about $129) but 1/2 ID lines in and out (actually -10AN female), and it has a three stage bypass that as the temperature increases allows more and more oil to bypass to the cooler. It also has 3 1/8 fpt ports, so I can put the fan switch in on and an oil temp sensor in another and just plug the third. It is easy that the fan switch will be "in from the engine" but I am thinking the oil temp will be the return from the cooler.

Still toying with where to actually attach to the oil line. Under the engine will mean a shorter run to the cooler, but under the bonnet will be a heck of a lot easier to get to.

I have also raised the cooler and pushed it further forward. I am thinking instead of a metal plate for the "license holder" of fabricating a piece of oak....

ah yes, that shows. The only down side is I had to buy to 90 degree adapters for the oil intake to get it 180 degrees in the correct direction.

well, I always figure with being a family practice physician the cool thing is "every room is different", but you also have to be OCD, because EVERY detail is important.
