I’ve just realised that the two-way radio exemption is why you see the presenters on The Grand Tour and Top Gear holding them and talking to each other whilst behind the wheel
Still makes a mockery of the whole thing though

That's why I have a TomTom GO 520 with cameras and was pleasantly surprised that the simple screen mount supplied held firm for 4000 miles even in torrential rain. It did steam up though just like the gauges.

Mine has not yet arrived but it looks like something that should work ok and fit over the padding above the top of the dash. I will report back again after I have received it.
Do post an update when it arrives..... I have tried half a dozen different mounts without success. That one could be a winner.

Generally speaking if your phone is in a mount it is ok to touch it to answer an incoming call or touch the off button but that is it. Any other interaction is likely to be an offence.
Sat navs, it is an offence to program them while driving. There is more than one offence related to mobile phones/satnavs. if you take your eyes off the road to interact or the vehicle weaves consider "Fail to maintain proper control or Careless driving" You can always take you case to the Magistrates but good luck with that one. Average total cost for losing a Mobile phone at court is currently around £850 !!!

Last year I was "told off" by a young bloke on a moped for touching the screen of my phone (in a mount) whilst stationary at traffic lights. He claimed to be an off duty policeman but I think he may have just been a busy body  I think i would of been opening my van door against him ....oooops
