Oh, the off-road Lambo! Yeah, that was something special. Still almost as vulgar as a Humvee, but considering when it was made, I think it was a fun thing. Now,a Mercedes Geländewagen, that is a nice car. In reality, though, I like simple things, so a Defender 90 would do me perfectly. Another all-time favourite of mine is the Citröen DS - in black. I wish they made an updated version of it:

DS - now that definitely is not simple! I like the simplicity of my 200Tdi Defender - which is why it is now being rebuilt, rather than buying newer. Also why I like my earlier Mog - a carb I can service (OK I do have electronic ignition) but no computers anywhere As for the HMMWV (or was it HMWWV? or...) I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the ideas from the LM002 had found their way into the design... The G-Wagon wasn't a bad motor, but was more road biased (in engine tune certainly) than an LR. The cross axle difflocks as standard were a nice touch. While the 90 is in rebuild I'm pottering around in a '95 Fourtrak F78 (coil sprung) - no Land Rover, but seems quite capable, though pandering to fashion with 15" alloy wheels and 255 / 70 wide rubber. Basic part time 4 wheel drive, simple 2.8Tdi, but more complex electrics - typical Japanese car of the period I guess. Cheers,

DS - now that definitely is not simple! LOL, okay you caught me. But I like the lines of the thing. They are flowing nicely and it looks pretty low (although it really isn't). I like the simplicity of my 200Tdi Defender - which is why it is now being rebuilt, rather than buying newer. Also why I like my earlier Mog - a carb I can service (OK I do have electronic ignition) but no computers anywhere I agree. I was a little bit disappointed to learn that the threewheeler would have a computer. On the other hand, Our Lupo 3L will propably outlast our Volvo C30. It just keeps going, no matter what. The G-Wagon wasn't a bad motor, but was more road biased (in engine tune certainly) than an LR. The cross axle difflocks as standard were a nice touch. I didn't know that. But then again, I've never driven a Geländewagen. I'd love to try one some day.
Cheers, I tried to look it up: Is the Fourtrack F78 a Daihatsu?

Yup, But I'm pretty sure the Fourtrak name only existed in UK and a couple of other markets. In USA, Oz etc. it was called the Rocky. Have to admit, while I didn't particularly like it at first (it was 'OK'), it has grown on me over the last nearly 3 weeks. Now I'm wondering whether to keep it... Not that it would replace the 90 The Citroen: friends had one for a while, yes it was a nice car to be driven around in (I never drove it), but when they started having the odd problem, what a nightmare to work on! Cheers,
Graham (G4FUJ)
