Eating, drinking and for that matter, smoking, can all result in a charge of "driving without due care and attention" if an officer is so minded. Ha ha, golly did we know how good we had it when we were young eh? Yorkie would never have become popular and truck drivers would never have developed Type 2 diabetes. Ginsters would be a tiny business and the NHS would have to perform half the number of heart ops. Some may even be old enough to remember Capstan/Players Navy Cut cigarettes, not only tar laden but not even a filter! If you didn't crash the car you would probably cough up a lung at some point sadly.

Sorry if you are talking on the radio, I cannot accept you are concentrating on the road and what is going on in the road.
If a punter in all reasonableness is not able to use a mobile while driving and I have no issue with that as I accept it is dangerous.
I cannot accept that a Police Officer or Ambulance Driver etc., is any more capable of driving and having a similar if not more intense conversation at the same time.
Eddie, nobody said you couldn't use a phone while driving only a handheld phone and Police officers and Ambulance drivers are not usually texting or scanning through a radio to find a number. We are either taking direction or reporting the situation not chatting about inconsequential matters. Not to mention the intense training we go through including running commentaries.
