Check your crank and pump rotation.
As I recall the crank runs clockwise and the water pump anticlockwise viewed from the front.
Sounds to me as though the thermostat is not opening properly, either because the water is not hot enough or the thermostat is stuck or faulty.
Is the bypass hose a lot hotter than the main top hose?

You're right about the pump rotation and it is correct. I'll check temperatures further tomorrow
