I live on the coast open the door and see it. A short ride to N/umberland and into Scotland . Just down the road to Yorkshire the moors etc . Or West to the little known area of Durham that few know co. Durham ancient history and empty roads to yourself. Playtime every Sunday. You can keep the busy South .

I fear current driving standards of many leave a lot to be desired.
Too short a gap is a regular these days.
In my opinion modern cars have so much tech to improve safety that drivers forget the human behind the wheel plays the major part. The “driver aids” create a feeling of the car correcting errors for them.
Remember when disc brakes started to come onto road cars?
You could get a sticker to warn following motorists you had discs and could stop much sooner than them.
Leave a proper gap when on a motorway....then watch drivers pull out into it. It destroys the 2 second or 2 chevron gap.
I have often said drivers should have a refresher evry few years (10?) as an update. In some respects like a SAC. Having done a couple they were good reminder sessions. Shame that too many had poor attitudes in them.

I was guilty of driving too close to the car in front, but the C43 has trained me well and I now maintain a good 2 seconds gap.

How?

There is some sort of speed/distance measuring system in the front of the Merc and if I get too close it beeps.... which is irritating. So in true pavlovian style I drive at a safe distance to avoid being told off by the machine.

I share a view posted here that every driver should do a driving awareness course every 10 years. It could be linked to renewing the photo on the licence.

10 years - there are some that need it every 10 months, or less!

How about 10 mins Graham . If I have a I will drive on your tail idiot on a road that is twisty and no hope of them getting past me . I drive with my foot on the accelerator and give my brake the odd jab just enough for the lights to go on but not the brakes . You see them back away they cannot work it out.

I remember a discussion with my driving instructor when he didn't understand that two seconds was both exactly the same as the result of his speed and distance calculation and easier to check.

They changed it to the two second rule, not that you'd notice.
