Agreed, how would you fancy push starting a Dodge Viper 8.4 litre V10 despite it having smaller pots.

The ECU won't let the engine fire up (or run) below about 7.8 volts so prior to trying anything else, select the voltmeter display and you should see just over 12 volts.

Then turn the engine over on the starter and if the voltage drops below about 8 volts you need a new battery.

This can then be confirmed with a jump start or remote power pack.

By the way, they do bump start OK with a push.

Thats a good tip to use a voltmeter while under load.

I agree with what has been said about the battery. You can have a weak cell and it "looks charged" but rapidly de-charges when you try to start. Happens to two wheelers all the time when the battery sits all winter EVEN on a charger. If you have a glass matte battery they will only suffer one low charge. Even they can boil out the water if your trickle is over charging

To clarify, you don't need a separate voltmeter. Just switch the odometer/trip/clock.voltage display in the speedometer to volts by cycling through presses on the end of the indicator stalk.

Definitive test for you battery is to put it on Load Tester. Take battery out and put on charger until it shows fully charged (must be fully charged for load test). Then take it to a mechanic, tune up shop, local parts store that does testing, or buy a load tester. Attach Load Tester leads to battery, push load switch, and read battery condition on tester's meter. If battery fails load test it is bad and nothing will fix it.

When you replace battery I recommend finding one with a higher CCA rating than the 300 CCA piece of crap that came in it. I just put a 450 CCA Exide in mine and now it cranks over with authority. It's a Chinese battery but the local cops are using it as the replacement in their Harley Police Specials.

Do you have a part number for this?

I highly recommend EarthX batteries, check out this thread:

You pretty much forget about your battery for years (ran it in my k1600gtl for 20000+ miles)

John.

Many of the battery numbers for the batteries that owners have found fit and work are here:
