In November I purchased a 1973 Plus 8 that had, in period, a set of 6" wire wheels (as on 289 AC Cobra) installed. There is some thought that to accomplish this the Plus 4 wheel assemblies may have been used. Apparently the early Plus 8 rotors were thicker than Plus 4 rotors. Can anyone confirm this, and if so, can anyone tell me the actual thicknesses of either or both? Thanks in advance for any info.

Most of the data you need is in the article above as recommended by JohnV6.
Many +4s (especially the racers) upgrade the brakes by fitting the +8 calipers (which entails changing the caliper mounting bracket I seem to remember) which is an improvement. Also experiment with brake pads. The +4 brakes are good and using a fade resistant pad will to some extent compensate for the extra weight of the +8.
If you want to revert to standard +8 parts it could be an expensive journey, using the items from the later wire-wheeled cars. Your system can be made to work well as long as you are not expecting race performance.

The early 69 +8 I had was fitted with escort Mexico/Capri calipers and rotors. Never had a problem with them ,even in hard use.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.
