Pleased to hear that the three threes are staying put the weather looks pretty atrocious at least till tomorrow morning, I found years ago that English motorcycling wet weather gear just didn't cut it in NZ rain so reverted to yachting gear to stay dry.

Back on the road today, the bridge we crossed on the way into Fox Glacier which crossed a virtually dry river bed was taken out by a raging torrent 20 hours later. Rain at is peak was falling at 100mm an hour . The bridge took with it all communication with the outside world as well.

Thankfully you made it to Fox Glacier when you did otherwise your trip would be majorly disrupted. Weather looks good for the next few days but watch out for Monday.

ps here is the best weather forecast for NZ http://metvuw.com/forecast/forecast.php?type=rain&region=nz&noofdays=10

Those guys are having it rough out in NZ on South Island. Shaun e-mailed last evening to say they were now able to get out of town after being cut off for three days. Then a couple of hours ago sent me this picture of a bridge they had driven over going into Fox Glacier that was washed away in the storm so cutting all communications off as well as passage.

The next few days look better for them though, Take Care, Ian

We can’t complain apart from the last 3 days the weather has been fantastic. The bridge took with it all communications, we were down to a message board with road status, there was some tech behind it as the local glacier guides had satellite phones and were updating everyone, luckily we were heading south those going north had a 1000 km
Shaun and Libby went for petrol when there was a brief lull in the rain

Today we made a pre dawn start managing 300 miles to gain back one of the days we had lost the views continue to be stunning

Another long day planned tomorrow and we will be back on our schedule

Another dawn start today, but worth it with views like this

We have crammed 4 days driving into the last 2 days and are now back on schedule after the storm delay a few days ago.

Friday night and we are in Invercargill where it seems to be cruise night

Great going team, must have been a quick visit to Milford Sounds, certainly would have beaten all the tourist buses. Probably saw a few as you were on the Milford Sounds to Te Anau road on the way out. Weather seems a bit more settled for your trip north.
Safe travels.
Doug
