Has anybody any idea what amp fuses and in what order do they go on a 1983 4/4 fitted with a Lucas fuse box, Iv'e only had the car for 35 years! and I simply can't recall what goes where. the are four glass fuses.

Also how do you take the sponge thingy from the top of the door as the stitching is coming away.

All of the fuses are rated at 35 amps. Found this on: http://morganrebuild.co.uk/FuseBox.html

That was also the case in MGB's of a similar era.

Removing the 'spongy - thing' on top of door.

On the earlier cars - and I assume its the same with yours....

Remove door inner panel - held with small nails (usually)

Remove tacks holding cover to 'spongy-thing'.

Fold cover away (toward out-side of door).

Now you get to 'spongy thing.

To remove the cover completely you need to lift off the spongy thing; you will find a metal bar which follows the profile of the top of the door; this is held in place by 4 wood screws into top of door; remove screws to release metal bar that holds cover to spongy thing.

All very easy - no special tools required.

Now I'm certainly no expert but for what it's worth, you need to be very careful with fuses as my understanding is that fuses are now rated by their CCR that is their constant current rating thus an old type 35amp fuse which would blow over 35amps will now blow at something like 70amps so if you have any old 50 amp fuses like cars in the '60's had, then they would only blow at 100 amps but the car would probably be on fire by then.

Yeah that may be true. They find it in layers deep underground......

Probably something in that Reg. I seem to recall seeing fuses with a paper insert which said 25A continuous, 35A blow. I might even still have some...…..I'll look later.
Maybe 25A would be a better modern fuse if that's true.
