I have a 2014 4/4. Yesterday on a 13 mile run I found the rear offside wire wheel hub very hot to touch. Today I took off the wire wheel and removed the brake drum.. It came off fairly easily. I tapped the pads and cylinder.. Put drum back on... Again fairly easily. Went for same run.. Wheel was now warm to the touch but not nearly as hot.The car is easy to push on the flat.
Do folk think I need to replace the cylinder or will it probably be ok?.... Or is there anything else I can do?

In my experience, Morgan rear brake cylinders are notoriously prone to problems.
Personally, I would get them replaced.

The offside drum also gets heated/warmed by the exhaust.

Best to change them now you don't want to contaminate the shoes. I replaced mine 3 years ago using this supplier, they were Caparo/AP Braking manufactured in UK. No connection other than satisfied customer. cylinders

Past parts might be worth looking at. They can bore and re-sleeve wheel cylinders, with a Stainless Steel Sleeve. Hence no further corrosion. http://www.pastparts.co.uk/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=8I also had a problem with the rear brakes binding after about a seven mile drive. I replaced both wheel cylinders, but still had the same problem. It turned out to be the brake master cylinder, once change the problem was solved.

We have replaced both rear wheel cylinders in our 2014 plus 4 (10k miles) after the same binding problems. Both were seized . Brown and Gammon the MG men listed them and supplied. Great service . We now have a progressive pedal again.

Personally, I would get them replaced. Fully agree. Both rear wheel cylinders were ceased on my 2011 4/4 at 32Ks. An easy task as you won't have to remove the shoes if you're careful. The only trick is fitting the retaining clip holding the cylinder to the back plate. Brake fluid changed regularly but I suspect regular use and packing the rubber caps with appropriate grease (not done as new) are key.

A QUESTION TO ALL WHO POSTED ON THIS TOPIC: It would be interesting to know if you had regularly replaced the brake fluid every 2 years? That might give us an idea as to whether it is really worth doing as a preventative measure.

I change my fluid every two years.
My 2005 Roadster on 20,000 miles is on original cylinders.
They are just getting a bit crusty so I intend to change them next winter.
Never had a problem. The fluid after 2 years comes out very discoloured from the rears.
