You can purchase magnetic wing protectors designed for this job, they are soft and hold themselves in place.

I have a pair of these I find pretty decent:

How about Quilted Wing Protectors?

This is the near side Protector, viewed from behind. They are made from two layers of old curtains with a generous layer of inter-liner material for shock protection. To keep it in place (without the need for dancing girls) there is a large "button hole" for the wing light and three rectangular cut-outs for the bonnet catches and buffer, all edged in zig-zag stitching to stop the material fraying.

and

Finally, the quilting foot keeps the layers together. The Protectors in action!!

No wings were harmed during the making of this Post! P.S. fits both cars.

Yes - they don't slide off as they are not in a vertical position.. and offer more protection than a towel or piece of cloth.

Hi all

Thanks for the replies and suggestions
I have bought a cover from Sealey the larger model which seems okay
Reasonable padding, waterproof top layer, non slip underlayer (without magnets) Which does work
If all works well I will buy one for the other wing
