hi there,
my electronic ignition is playing up again, it went out of production over 15 years ago, and I can not seem to be able to find out much about it. Has any one on here fitted an aftermarket system to their car recently? if so, what is the name and does it work well in the car.
My car starts OK, then after a few mins stops and wont restart for 15 mins. It could be tricky if crossing the motorway and loosing all motion unexpectedly? mine has a no points system in the distributor and a yellow electronics box.
Maybe I should install a points system as in the original car and discard all things electronic?

Remind me of the car again - year / engine etc...

I have an electronic dizzie on my '76 X-flow - non-standard as mine had traditional points originally. I was going to change the internals for electronic variety, but Tim Ayres / Darren Bunn at New Elms came up with the complete replacement instead - I think there was probably a fair bit of wear in my old one.

Peter, most Morganeers use the Lumenition which seems similar to yours. I am still on points. If I would chenge to electronics I would go for the Pertronix.

Do you still have a spark when it stops? Have you done all the basics like checking the earths?

I've had an Aldon Ignitor in my crossflow for the past ten years or so.

Ruby - tap room experts will say that electronic systems either work or they don't.
Not true, they can fail intermittently - as I know to my cost.
First change back to points, then you'll know for sure if its ignition. Then decide how to move forward.

I have already found the Pertronix site and I am impressed with the size of the unit they make. It all fits into the distributor inside the cap with out any outside box of electronics. Looks very neat.Had a look inside my dissy and found that all the workings for points have been removed years ago so I will have to stay with the electronic versions?

my system is a MOBELEC with an outside yellow box.

I will see if they make a model for the ford engine and distributor?

I have a lot on my plate at the moment: Restoring my series one land-rover 1952 for the second time in 25 years. Just had the gearbox rebuilt at great cost.
Then my International tractor blew its head gasket and investigation revealed that it also has a bent No 4 push-rod, so out came the engine, now its stripped and at the re-conditioners being assessed.
The land rover is now pushed into a corner to wait its turn....
Now I have to fix the Morgan probs as well, electrical and steering/suspension.
Its a good job that I am retired and have the time to spend on these challenges that crop up from time to time.....

I have been doing a lot of reading on the web with regard to electronic ignition systems.
The Pertronix one looked good to start with, but I have now found a far superior beast in the "123 ignition" item, follow this link and review the test video. Video
It is most revealing of the other type of systems failings and shortcomings.
Make your own mind up!

So, starts cold, heats up, causes something to expand and break the circuit, cools down (15 mins?) and it will remake the circuit so it starts again??? Also, moisture is traditionally the enemy but it CAN make things work briefly until it dries out if it's a track across some vaguely conductive dirt.
Good luck - these intermittent faults can be real sods.

Much too expensive for me and my old banger (and with positive earth).

Though most classic car journals over here are waxing lyric about it. The marketing men at this Dutch company know their job

Further to the ignition prob I phoned the importer Ted Cross and he suggested that my coil may be "cooked" ?
It is a standard Fordmoco coil and I wonder if ( just any 12 volt coil ) will do as a replacement?
some are oil filled to assist cooling and some are not!
what have others on here replaced their coils with?
