I've given up flying if I possibly can - nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with how squalid a means of transport it is outside first class. And I cant afford the latter.

Your other three are unacceptable. I'm not going veggie for anyone and I'm not prepared to be cold either.

I'm not sure how to respond to that, other than:

The indigenous peoples of northwest America that the explorers Lewis and Clark encountered on their journey to the Pacific Ocean survived harsh times by eating the dogs that followed their camps. Lewis and Clark’s men tried it and commented it was preferable to venison. They liked it so much that when they returned from their journey they had to be counseled to not continue the practice since it was deemed socially unacceptable.

I’ll happily give up air travel....I really suffered after my last long haul flight, the air quality was dreadful. I have turned the heating down over the past couple of years and I’m about to swop to a green energy supplier. I will not be a vegan though! I’ve cut my meat consumption right back and am mainly veggie if you don’t count eggs, but I do enjoy a nice steak every now and again. And I like my leather shoes etc! And then there’s a sneaking feeling that a lot of vegans have a very holier than thou attitude and are well....er, frankly a bit weird. 🙄.

I hope your bit from the Daily Mash was tongue in cheek Tim. If we have to be serious about this and the world is going to get to a tipping point sooner than perhaps expected....are you going to give up your ICE vehicles including your Morgan?
That’s the thing on here, we are all petrolheads and are hoping that there will be some way to continue using our cars in the future but perhaps we should be biting the bullet and saying to ourselves the the time is coming for us to give up our hobby?

Yes, of course the Daily Mash is a satirical site, but like all satire it does expose some uncomfortable truths.

The planet is indeed rapidly approaching a climate crisis, and we are all going to have to change the way we live our lives. Some people still believe if we all make small changes, ie cutting back a bit on our emissions, we can get by. Others believe that more drastic changes are needed. I used to be in the first group, now I'm in the second.

I'm of the view that the absolute impact of our own individual behaviours is immeasurably small, and it comes down to what we actually feel comfortable with, If one's conscience is clear, if one can look one's grandchildren in the eye and defend the behaviour, then go for it.

Jane and I live as green a lifestyle as we can, but we don't intend to stop using our ICE vehicles altogether. There are loads of other ways to reduce our footprint, like eating locally-produced food wherever we can rather than automatically buying stuff that has massively high food miles.

As for vegan/vegetarian food, I realise that many vegans can come across as a bit weird, but please don't make the mistake of thinking that the food is any less tasty or enjoyable than a meat-based diet. I was at a 5-course Vegan banquet the other night, eating a range of dishes from around Asia, and it was one of the best meals I've ever eaten.

I still think this battle is lost. What also troubles me is that less than three hundred years of industrialisation can have such a massive impact on the planet, and in particular, pollution of the seas.

Lets face it, unless drastic measures are taken in respect of commercial flying, massive diesel container ships, and burning coal and gas to generate electricity, I don't see how this can be stopped. Taking the steps needed will cripple economies and cause shortages, which will lead to tens of thousands dying.

There are far too many people on this planet, and the industrialisation which is required to sustain over-population will lead to significant destruction, it's just a matter of when.

And we have a situation where China, Russia and the USA are blind to it.

Against this backdrop, driving your car is a tiny drip in the ocean.

And Brexit is an irrelevance...…..

Dave. China used to have terrible pollution problems because it was, amongst other things, very reliant on poor quality coal. In the last few years they have made tremendous strides and will continue to do so. Do a little googling and you will be surprised.

I like rabbit and squirrel isnt bad - shot one and ate it in Texas. And I wear a thick pullover indoors all winter - I refuse to turn the heat off and sit in my house in misery.

Strangely If you eat just rabbit, you can starve to death

It’s incredibly lean, zero cholesterol but rich in vitamins

Mix it with a bit of carbs and something fatty and it’s a winner

My mum used to make a fantastic rabbit stew when I was a kid
