Itsa Bitsa and Golden Gate Bridge in the Fog

I have been on ships under the Golden Gate Bridge 5 or 6 times. When discharged from the Navy in 1954 I sailed by Sailor Hats out the window of My 1948 Ford. Used so much oil that I had to refill it about ever 100 miles or so.

I had a Daimler V8 engined Moran like that Bill, I would go into a garage and say "fill her up please , and check the petrol (gasoline)

I think it was a total loss system, but nothing leaked, it all came out the exhausts.

Nice photo indeed! You got lucky that the traffic was so light.

I have only been under the bridge on the water once, in a troop transport going to Vietnam. I was not even thinking about the view at the time.

I have crossed that bridge so many times I feel I have paid for a layer of paint on that big old thing.

LightSpeed, you and also Button live in a beautiful area. I am happy that I spent two weeks there in 2017. The landscape between your place and the Golden Gate is fantastic.

I can’t think of any situation when fog would better than fogless, it’s always horrible.

How are the lanes arranged on the bridge, four in one direction?

When you sometimes see the Pacific coast there in the morning you know how John Carpenter came up with the idea for his film The Fog.

They change the number of lanes going north or south depending on peak traffic times. They put up little rubber red posts that separate the lanes; its a bit harrowing if you are not used to having traffic zipping past you in that head-on configuration so closely.

I used to use the medical services in the SF Bay area so was there a lot, but have since moved to the Puget Sound area to be even closer to medical. I now live with a closer view of the water :-)

Yes 4 going North and 4 going South. It is a very big bridge. However very crowded with cars. Highway 101 is essentially a 2 lane highway that expands to more lanes as it approaches the Bridge. Unlike London there are no "Ring Roads" for access to the City. Seattle is the same.
