I’m holding off until prices drop, they offer a reliable range and the charging infrastructure improves. I will also have solar panels fitted to the house to link into the recharging point.

The question is....fully electric or some sort of hybrid? Too many of the hybrids seem to be using electric to boost power and performance which in my mind is pointless with speed limiters and black boxes appearing in the next few years. I want adequate performance with a decent range!

Suspect this might be my electric car. Wonder if I can get it in Ferrari Giallo Fly?

I work in the motor trade and my role connects (pardon the pun) me to most manufacturers. It is clear that nearly all are in a phase (chuckle) of switching (not intended) to full electric power.

The market has pretty much gone for new volume diesels, (although I've just bought a Mazda CX5) and some mainstream manufacturers have dropped them altogether (Porsche and soon other VW brands to follow)

The new car market has really slowed, mainly for the reason sited by the OP, ie, don't want to buy another petrol/diesel right now and its a bit early to be sure of EVs.

Interesting times but having bought an I8 last year, I'm no longer interested in buying a high performance petrol Aston, Porsche etc. And that's from a die hard petrolhead!

The next 12 months alone will see a massive wave of new EV's coming onto the market. Oh and with it is the threat of the Chinese invasion. They are market leaders in this tech and can build sensible EV's to a more palatable budget...

Other than the fact that there is probably not enough lithium on the earth's surface to power the entire planet's automotive needs there have been questions raised over the total life ecological footprint of lithium EV batteries. One has to consider the mining through to eventual disposal and recycling.

Some are now thinking that the best option is hybrid diesel. Diesel because the total combined production of pollutants and greenhouse gases of modern diesel engines is still less than petrol engines.

I am going to wait for hydrogen power. If only they could find a cheap way of producing hydrogen, and they will, we could all just be chucking water out of the exhaust. No nasty heavy metals to mine and transport around the world.

I am probably talking out of my whatnot, but it cannot be too far into the future that the entire vehicle body is made as a PV panel and that it generates energy kinetically (air pressure). Nonsense?

Sodium will replace Lithium in EV batteries within 5 years. There is rather a lot of Sodium on the planet.

There used to be a lot of wood on the planet.

Hydrogen is the way to go. I read that Shell are investing millions into this. Like a report said, we have about 36 million cars on uk roads. Just think if we all decided to bin the petrol and diesel cars in the next 5 years. Where would the charging panels be put? No I believe that going electric is a government push. Think of the taxes the government make on fuel, which will come from electric in the future. Also everyone would be charging at night, think of the spike at the power stations.
