The speedometer illumination on my 2017 m3w outfitted with the ash dash and instrumentation package has failed. Fuse is good. Tach still lights. In warranty but dealer is a 1200 mile round trip. I am going in the access opening in the fuse box to see what I can find. Anyone dealt with this before? Any advice greatly appreciated since wiring diagrams are apparently nonexistent. Everything else on the speedometer is working properly I just don't get illumination when I turn on the lights.

You can download or view the full parts manual v5.2 here. It includes wiring loom layouts which although not very high definition do give you some indication of cable routings. Doubt it's a fuse issue if tacho illuminates. You could try connector to speedo though if you can gain access.

ETA: I have a vague recollection of similar issue with illumination. Not sure if you are aware but it's adjustable although not mentioned in manual. With ignition on press end of indicator stalk to cycle through clock, trip etc. until voltage comes up. Then press and hold until ILL comes up. Then pressing it quickly allows you to cycle through illumination levels 1..10. Have heard that it sometimes affects only one instrument - worth a try.

It might be as simple as resetting the illumination level.

Turn on the ignition, press the indicator button until voltage is shown, press and hold it until "ILL" is shown then press it quickly so it cycles through the different levels (lights on) between 1 and 10. You can set the level with another long press of the indicator button.

Yes, with my first car, I had the same problem and the dealer said it was the bulb and I waited for (but never got) a new one only to find out a lot later that I had probably just accidentally turned the illumination down. 🤨

Got home late tonight, went out to the shop and you were all correct. The speedometer light was turned off at the brightness control and all I had to do was turn it up. If you had not told me I would probably never found the control. Haven't had car long and it may have been off when I got it. Thank you for your assistance and also for the link to the Parts Book.

I know that with Mini Cooper that every time I change the battery or change another parameter in that stalk control system that something else is unintentionally effected. A real pita.

This was a timely thread! My speedo light was out and I figured that was the end of that and was prepared to live with it. I upped the illumination by a couple of taps this weekend and it works again. If just every fix was this easy!
