Nope. They look pretty retro to me,but with a modern twist. Much like the new threewheeler.

Cromwell also makes some more retro-stuff, but they're not hypo-allergenic. They also make those momo-helmets (same company)

That top part looking all silvery is stainless steel. It's not painted carbon fibre or glass fibre.

One could use it without the vizor for something more retro, but really, everything would be a compromise except those half helmets with leather sides - you know, that half an eggshell glued onto a leather helmet.

People racing in the old ones use full-face helmets, but I think a "scooter helmet" as the cromwell is a good compromise.

We did look at some helmets whilst we were in Geneva and we saw some of these too.

Boshers had found a very good shop selling them in the red-light district the night before (true story, but don't ask!) and he took Head Office and I there the following morning.

We looked at the MOMO ones and innumerable others, but did not come to any conclusion. The Cromwell Air Force would look good if you have the full decal kit from MMC with the RAF Roundels!

Yeah, I agree. Personally the Air Force ones just won't work for me with faux leather and not being hypo-allergenic. I realise that's far from being representative, or in other words: I have very few helmets to choose from when it comes down to it.

Can't you just wear a hypo-allergenic balaclava under the helmet of your choice?

Nope. It's not just what I touch, it's what I breathe. I have had to have all my zippers in trousers made from metal, all the buttons in all my clothing made from natural materials (bone, shells, wood), all tags removed, no elastic anywhere etc.

Try finding non-elasticated socks without elasthan or nylon or other chemical compound. It's practically impossible, but it is to that extent I have to go.

A silk balaclava would do nothing for me after a couple of minutes or so when it got warm. Then it would have soaked up the chemical crappola from the helmet, and then I'm back at square one.

If only it were my skin like when people had nickel allergies. That would be easy to live with.

Sorry AQM, quite a difficult problem - you have my sympathy. I hope you can solve the crash helmet issue, it can't be easy finding apparel that suits you.

Thanks, yeah, it's a bitch to deal with it, but I almost have it down to a science these days. Luckily I never ended up like those people wearing respirators when out and about.

I row a lot and I think that has had a good effect.

Here's a pic of my rowing boat (15ft long, 70 lbs):



(I mostly use a sliding seat these days).

That boat has made my health markedly better, because I can be outside, no foamy chemicals in sight (neoprene etc), and I get a lot of exercise.

I think a threewheeler will be just the ticket, regardless of helmet or not. If it turns out I react to the Cromwell, and I can't find another, then so be it. That won't keep me from driving. Wind in the face, low and fun. How much better than that can it get?

3-Wheeler, the perfect solution. (even if people think you're mad when you drive it in all weather conditions!)
