Hi can any of the electrical wizards on here instruct me on how to tap into the wiring harness to fit a 12 volt socket, (like the cigarette lighter). The intended use for sat nav etc. Are any places in the interior easier to fit than others. Where do others fit a socket. Also with sat navs where do others locate them. Is there a good place that I havent spotted. Whats your thoughts please. The car is a 96 4/4 two seater.

I have a later car and there is a lighter socket in the glove box, could there, just maybe, be one in yours.

I have 1 install in the back between the two seats and 1 in the glove box, connect direct with the battery, do not forgot to install a fuse (15A)

cant help with the socket as i havent got one - will be watching this thread for tips.

but I mount my garmin, using the standard sucker on the windscreen, as low down as i can in the centre of the screen, that way the unit is pretty much a finger stretch whilst my hand are on the wheel, and as the back of the unit is tight to the padded section of dash, vibration is reduced, With volume dialled all the way up its just about audible, unless pressing on (i'm not looking for directions then!!)

I got a marine 12v socket from Maplins; I don't smoke and my car gets wet regularly!

Jeremy Edwards that is an excellent blog site that you made. I found it most interesting....my car is a 1973 chassis B3079, not far off yours..

I have a socket ready to fit in mine and am also watching....
Glovebox is most likely location. Tapped into the wiring from ignition switch so its not powered unless ignition is on? Fuse link also ready. The between the seats option is handy too, but don't want leads running to satnav through cockpit area to get in the way so glovebox is No1 choice. A second one is also a nice idea between seats. I may look to make a consol for this area over transmission tunnel and it could be fitted there.
Oh the jobs to be done!

The wiring for a cig lighter should be there, next to the glove box, under the dash. It should be live all the time. For a suitable socket you can't beat the marine ones made by SUTARS - just Google.
