Ferry booked and off in a few weeks , An old chestnut , what’s the latest on the luggage obstructing the Plus 4 3rd brake light ? Remove it , raise it or leave well alone . Plan stop off at the Schlump Collection in France en route and travel in Germany and Austria so any advice on the plethora of permits and green travel permits needed would be appreciated.

Vignette needed for Austria but it can be purchased on line "shop@asfinag.at" or at the border. Green disc may be needed for some German cities; again info is available on line but allow at least 10 days for delivery. Safer to raise 3rd brake light, especially in France or alternatively remove the existing one. If planning to use the toll autoroutes in France get a toll pass from Emovis Tag Uk. Bon voyage!

Also, some French cities need an emissions sticker. We got our Austrian and Swiss Vignettes from http://www.tolltickets.com/ - no extra charges above buying it when you get to the border and has the luxury of knowing you won’t inadvertently get caught without one. The Austria vignette has options - 10 days, 2 months or annual. The Swiss one is annual only,

We went the Asfinag online electronic Vignette saved having the job of removing the sticker . You have to get it ordered at least 18 days of wanting it come into use as they have a returns policy if you want to cancel. Worked no problem at all

You can get the vignette at the border. For fro memory either 10 days a month or a year. You can get the vignette at every normal gas station near the border on German and Austrian site.

Austrian Autobahn Vignette:
you do not need one when not using any Autobahn
if ordering an electronic one at ASFINAG.AT you have to order it some 2 weeks in advance
if you purchase one at the border or at any larger petrol station the Vignette is operational as soon as you stick it to your windscreen
Austria has some toll-streets where you have to pay extra - local toll stations accept € or Ccards
