Over our recent tour of Scotland, the roads were populated by lardy over-styled SUVs and bloated saloons.

There was a time when a new car release really did create a wow factor.

Going way back, the Dolomite Sprint was one such car.

And the droop snoot Firenza estate...........

So ignoring supercars, have there been any Wow! car launches in the last few years?

I can't think of any.........

I thought of the new Mustang in V8 guise, but then realized its as big as a Transit van in footprint so qualifies for a bit lardy. Great car but oh so challenged on narrow roads.

The Caterham classic super seven in light green launched several years back has a wow factor and I think the VW Up Gti might - just might - qualify?

Wow doesn't sell cars in a reliable fashion. Like the old saying about Chinese restaurants - the best place to site one is next door to an existing one - that way you get at least half of his trade and more if you are better.
I was appalled to see a Bentley on the M6 on Friday which looked just like the dozens of other SUVs that seem to be so popular these days. If Bentley can't stick their neck out and wow then it's a lost cause I'm afraid

The Bentley Continental Convertible came with a wow effect as it came in parallel with the Azure an nobody knew about it.
The Mulsanne was one as well.

The Elise had a wow effect.

Alfa 4C came with wow.
