I would think constant airflow during running would keep it cool enough to prevent melting. I would worry more about heat soak from a hot engine once it is shut down.

Melting would be a concern for sure. What material is the S&S Stinger, a plastic of some sort?

What temperatures does the 3D printer reach for the plastic to flow?

The PLA melts at 220 degrees in order to perform the extruded print. I would be concerned it might sag, or melt in latent heat once static. I should maybe just run with it, and keep an eye on things once home.

The top end of the S&S gets hot?

Refer to thr printed text on top of the heat shield 😂😂. In reality you could do a quick performance run and take it out immediately after shutting off the engine just to see how wrll it performed. If it works then have it reproduced in aluminum on a cnc machine. Or maybe just buy one from S&S.

Justin is the paint on the G56 cover heat blistered?

I was looking through J&P cycles for filters and I see that S&S makes a +1 filter. With spacers, would that fit with the G56 cover, or is the +1 also a wider diameter than the stock filter element?

No, its fine, in that photo, it was covered in my favorite juice - ACF50, an expensive way to use maintenance spray, but amazing stuff. I use in on the machine steel in my machines to keep the rust a bay.

I might look at tweaking the design of the "venturi" or as I have just discovered it's retail name of "Air directional stinger cone" and get it made from some high temperature lightweight material, even cast one in alloy using this 3D print as a pattern, although may have to calculate some shrinkage.

Anyone with a lathe (four jaw) could do this, cut the profile, then machine round off center by about an inch.



Shame it doesen't exist for the G56 kit, with the four bolt holes, however I would have thought the effort that they took in the design, maybe this component isn't needed at all.

Did you try it briefly to note any performance differences?

I really like the idea and if a CNC wizard is on this Forum machining the stinger out of 6061 Aluminum would be perfect. Maybe G56 would be willing to purchase a batch since I am sure there would be development time in fitting and testing.

I would purchase one.
