Over our recent tour of Scotland, the roads were populated by lardy over-styled SUVs and bloated saloons.
There was a time when a new car release really did create a wow factor.
Going way back, the Dolomite Sprint was one such car.
And the droop snoot Firenza estate...........
So ignoring supercars, have there been any Wow! car launches in the last few years?
I can't think of any......... Tesla, more to do with its brain than its styling.

But has there been anything to match the real WOW factor delivered by the Citroen DS in the 1960s and E Type in the 1960s??  Rover SD1 Triumph TR7 Ford Sierra MK1 Cosworth Maybe Not the TR7 Stewart....go and lie down in a dark room. Where they designed it. I seem to remember at the time though, as a kid, before the quality issues gave it a bad reputation, it was wildly received Didn’t Purdy in the New Avengers have a yellow one And one of the women in Dallas had a silver one Someone told me that in the US, demand was so high they couldn’t launch it in the UK for ages after they wanted As a kid I’m sure I would have gone ‘wow’ seeing my first one

Some cars I think had a ‘wowish’ factor or ‘not totally dull’ factor
The first Peugeot 205 GTI in 1984
The Audi A4 first generation was a bit exciting in 1994
The third generation E36 BMW 3 series was quite a radical reshape for 1990
Audi TT mark 1 was pretty and a design classic
The first generation Merc A class was also quite revolutionary in shape at the time

Maybe the Peugeot Stewart, but build quality was dire, which put me right off them.
The rest are just blobs.
TVR Griffith was a Wow car (nineties), and what followed after the Chimaera...………...mainly the 350's but TVR went through a spell of producing stunning cars which didn't sell in enough numbers.
Certainly the Aeros were Wow but we all know that!

There's a TR7 in the garage I use... gold body & wheels, brown/tartan cloth interior. It's a delight!
In a similar spirit of loving pure design, no "wow" list is complete without a Renault Avantime - as in "wow, what were they thinking" - but the whole concept worked amazingly well.
While I'm here, I give you the Citroen SM

I remember seeing the TV review (Tiff Needle drove it) and I watched it 3 times back to back and twice agian the following day. I have never done that before or since. I then saw one on the fresh and it had me slack jawed and acting like a 10 year old....it is of course the McLaren F1

The Peugeot RCZ!
A car that wowed by driving it. Had it on a benchmark test and not a single person left it without a deep grin in their face.
This was more fun than most high end sports cars.
But it did not sell though...
