Yes & not much progress since in reality. Certainly not in passenger comfort in budget economy.

Not always.. remember Aloha Airways Boeing 737, Flight 243. I think the reality is that whilst technology has improved massively comfort has been sacrificed on the alter of money.

I'd forgotten about that one.
A miracle that they got that plane down in one piece.

Thanks Iain and Richard for sharing the article and the clip. Yes it is astonishing if one sees the development during this only 50 years until 1969. Although the basic structure was already developed until 1969, some things have evolved until today: materials, engines, digitization, etc. But it is rather a fine tuning not a real revolution. Even if a flightdeck of a 707 of 1962 is nothing more comparable with a cockpit of today. But I think back then it was innovatively developed and invented and today it is rather refinements where the goals are given by the marketing.

In the first years the rate of development was even more astonishing. Only 33 years between : Wright´s first motor flight 1903 Spartan Executive 1936 346 km/h cruise speed 1610km range Some of them still fly today.

Yes & not much progress since in reality. Mind you, as Morgan enthusiasts, who are we to criticize slow evolution ?

Yes Jens, that is an astonishing rate of development from a hop in the desert to covering serious distances at speed and in comfort p.s. If only we had these people around working on the current car issues facing us

Some days I feel like the first one of those two photos! Perhaps because I share the surname? Although I'm not aware of any family connections. Do like the second one, looks an interesting little aircraft.
