The paint on my aluminium main windowscreen supports on my plus 4 2014 is flaking off. I would like to sand down and respray. Is there a specific colour for the silver/grey? Does anyone know the name or paint code. I tried a generic grey paint but could not get a good match.

Take it too an automotive paint shop where they mix colours. They will have a spectrometer that will give you a near perfect match.
Don’t know what they are like in the UK but the guy near me in Tassie takes about one min with the spectrometer then mixes the paint on the spot and only charges around $20.00 for about 100ml . He will also stick it in an aerosol can if read.

I'm assuming you'll take the M40 and then cut through the northern Costwolds. This route takes you close to Oxford, which might interest you, and just north near Woodstock is Blenheim Palace, a spectacular country house and Churchill's birthplace. The Cotswolds are a charming area if you want pretty stone villages.
Why not make time to explore the Malvern area. Drive around and/or walk on the hills--public access, multiple paths, many benches to rest on and fine views. Near the Wyche Cutting in the southern portion is a good Iron Age hill fort (British Camp). Over the hills is the picturesque town of Ledbury and lots of Herefordshire countryside.

I understand that it is a powder coat and it flakes off because of oxidation of the cast metal underneath.

I had this problem on my 2014 Plus 8, and took a decision to swap for ones refurbished my the Morgan dealer in Germany, Morgan Park.

The new ones are chrome and look wonderful... this photo shows them off well.



Morgan Park will send the chromed pillars, you have to send back the old ones by return. If you don't, they invoice you the Morgan price for a new pair and charge to the card you used to pay for the chrome ones.

Fitting the new pillars I was taken a back by the way the pillars are fitted to the car: 3 x M5 studs on each side wouldn't to anything to support the screen in an accident. It was that discovery that resulted in me fitting the roll over bar behind the seats.

I don’t know the exact paint code that Morgan use but a silver grey RAL 9006 is pretty close

I had a bit of paint mixed up and I touched up a couple of areas where it had flaked around the machine screws into the windscreen frame

It looks spot on colour wise

From my experience with the A pillars on my 3 year old 4/4 as you have found a repaint or even powder coating will quickly start to
flake away for the reasons mentioned by PeterJ.

I took another route to resolve: I sanded down to bare metal in situ and had the pillars wrapped in black vynal at local depot for £40 the pair..only took 40 mins..much more durable.

The base must be super clean for a good job.

Nice job Kevfitz. I am tempted to try spray on vinyl coating. Plastidip type from aerosols. When applied correctly ( not difficult) it leaves a peel-able coating if you want to change it. I am tempted to try it on the alloys too as a test for colour change.

The A pillars have had at least two grey finishes. My Roadster has a mottled dark grey, which resembles Hammerite, but is more like enamel. It was like that in 2008, so although it may have been refinished, I suspect this was standard in 2005. This finish has not deteriorated at all.


My other two Morgan's have had the current pale grey finish, and neither have shown any sign of oxidation. I have taken the screws out and applied a smear of Coppaslip, and I keep them polished, but that's it. Over enthusiastic polishing can gloss the finish, so take care when doing it.

My 2003 4/4 was an early car to be fitted with an ‘easy-up’ hood.
Whatever they coated the screen pillars with (matt grey) has remained looking much the same for 16 years and 43k miles.
I’ve considered brightening them up a bit, but decided to opt for originality and keep them as manufactured.
