Has anyone else been watching this auction. He is selling his collection of guitars to raise money for charity and based on the bidding so far, he will raise a lot of money.

First lot guide price $10-15,000 - hammer price $340,000
Second lot guide price $10-20,000 - hammer price $900,000
Third lot guide price $1-2000 - hammer price $30,000

there was two guitars I thought I might have a punt at, but these prices are just unbelievable

The David Bowie auction in London a few years ago was pretty similar. The estimated prices made me think about a couple of interesting pieces. The hammer prices were way over the top and then some.

Would be nice if one of the charities to benefit was the Royal British Legion or similar after his sons shenanigans.

I think it is all going to a climate change charity.

Just to put the cat amongst the pigeons IMHO climate change is a natural occurrence and all the money in the world won't change it. What a waste of a glorious opportunity to donate to something that would do some good

Very unfair to blame David for the stupid actions of his adopted son, he would have been as angry as you are, having worked for him in aviation for around 10 years I can assure you the man is a gentleman and a thoroughly nice bloke, not many of them around.

I was interested in a couple of pictures in an auction yesterday (both went for more than I was prepared to pay, as it happens).

There was also a decent sized drawing in the sale by John Constable (no less), with decent provenance. Estimate £6-8K.

For a Constable !! Hmm. I thought. I'll maybe have a punt on that.

You've guessed it. It went for over £70K

Mind you, there was a large-ish Edward Seago oil painting went for £3200. But then, it wasn't a nice picture (unusually for him).

The auction has just finished with the "Black Strat" going for $3.3m, which must be a record.

If my calculation is right, he has raised about $17.7m for charity by selling items, some of which he must have had a very strong attachment to.

I totally agree with you Keith. King Canute and the tide all over again...
