I got one of those " huge thick drying cloths" when TM visited Meguiars this year - its brilliant, quick-easy and very effective. Recently bought another as halfordfs have them ( and the entire Meguiars range) at 20% off.

My tip of the day: If you have a block paving style driveway done at your house, be very careful that you don’t let any of the kiln-dried sand accidentally get onto your wash-mitt or drying cloths or you may end up with tiny swirl marks all over the wire’s car and your own windscreen.

Better still - have it sealed.

I just snow foam it, jet it off and then switch the jet wash water feed to a container of PURE water. You can buy it from fish shops for around 5p a litre and it’s sold as DIRO (de-ionised reverse osmosis). It’s what the window cleaners use and the aim is to jet off the tap water. If the tap water drys it leaves streaks, the DIRO drives without leaving a lark as there is nothing in it to get left behind. Stops those swirl marks.

Following on from recommendations on this thread and other forums (fora?) I tackled the Mog today after a quick run out in the country.

Following the 2 bucket method, snow foam, shampoo, and detailing spray to finish I was chuffed with the results.

Picture 1 is the passenger door looking very shiny!

The bucket in the reflection in the picture above is about 8 feet from the car

The picture above with the light on the camera phone shows lack of swirling by following the advice on this forum

I must admit that after collection my local car valeting chap gave the car a thorough detailing and I think much of the ability to get such a good finish myself is starting from a solid base.

Fat Wolfie - that is one v shiny car!
I must confess I haven’t yet washed my car. Not through laziness per se but more through not having the correct washing solution or water (v hard water where we live). However, I do use detailer with microfibre cloths pretty much after every trip and seems to bring up a nice shine. Probably the wrong thing to do but....

I get much better results, now we have water decalcifier installed, no more drops that leave a white lime deposit on dark blue. I use mentioned towel for drying and the 2 bucket method as taught on this forum by Dave W.
I confess I am more of a driver than a car cleaner...

Thanks chaps.

I fear the shinyness won’t last in use but hopefully having got it to that stage it’ll be easier to keep up to...
