The language as we learned it has changed significantly and the world wide media certainly aids in that unwanted endeavor.

The pronunciation of words beginning with the letter E get changed to an UH sound, and the list goes on ad-infinitum.

Railing against such hacking of the language is like Don Quixote tilting at windmills, which is what I feel like most of the time:)

English has evolved steadily, driven by its users.
All the versions found today, British, North American, Indian, S African, Australasia and even EU/European are for now, mutually comprehensible. But they all evolve and it is possible that in a few hundred years they will be as different as Dutch, Danish, German, Swedish and Norwegian are today.

IMHO the reason that English has become the world's second language is there is no interfering Government Agency dictating what is right and wrong, what is allowed and what is not.

I thought that was what schools, at least in part, were for. These days I suspect many teachers don't even use the "Queen's English" themselves, let alone teach it.

I must confess, whilst I accept the fluidity of our language and that I am a right old fart, I am increasingly annoyed with the increasing use of the word "gotten" instead of "got" in newspaper articles. Hurumph! And ggggrrrr!
Anyway, welcome back Neil....

Well, you are just not old enough. As past participles of get, got and gotten both date back to Middle English. The form gotten is not used in British English but is very common in North American English, though even there it is often regarded as non-standard. A past participle is a word that's used with had, have or has. Therefore, it's perfectly acceptable to use gotten if it's being used with its companion word. For example, the misting of the gauges in my Morgan has gotten worse. Middle english was in general use up to the mid 1600s.

The one which most annoys me is the use of myself instead of me or I.

I suspect it's driven by a lack of confidence in whether to use I or me
