To all those that have offered sound advice and guidance a quick up-date.

I've spoken to a Morgan Engineer regarding the engine performance. He has agreed there's an issue with the car and thinks either a wiring fault or early failure of an ECU or associated component that needs to be sorted at dealer level. So that is the next step.

Hopefully there will be some easily identifiable failure and I can move on getting to know the car

Cheers again for all the advice.

Yes that is good news.

OZ - just wondering have you ever had the gauges fog up in Australia?

My old plus 8 doesn't seem to suffer the fogging , though the engine develops plenty of heat and she sleeps inside.

As soon as it gets cold outside I get foggy instruments.

First, and I know this could be difficult - I can be an obsessive perfectionist sometimes - try to accept the gauge fogging, if it doesn't completely obscure it. This really is the type of thing you have to deal with in a Morgan. It is part of the character. Do you have to grease the suspension every 500mi on any other 50k car?

Second, the GDI engine is "poor" (let's be diplomatic) in the Plus 4 application (which uses a non-Ford ECU). However, it should at the very least pull linearly from 1500rpm to 4000rpm with wide open throttle and a smooth increase in power. Any drop-off or flat spot should definitely be fixed by warranty. But do not expect a top-tier engine even when working properly.

Third - run in... A huge can of worms. Honestly, I expect a 2.0 Ford engine could be thrashed from day 1 with no particular ill effects. As a very broad-brush generalisation of a lot of anecdotal evidence, collective wisdom tends to be that a hard run in will give a sweeter and more powerful engine, a gentle run-in will give better longevity. I tend to go somewhere in between with my cars, but on one low-power hire car I thrashed hard from mile 10, the improvement in the engine over the next 2-300 miles was huge...

When did the misting gauges problem first appear? I've never had an issue with mine.
