If anyone wants a photo of what the upright braces look like, I can take a photo of those on my 2018 chassis fitted by MMC on my 2012 car last autumn.

Not the easiest thing to take a photo of, even with a powerful ring flash on the lens. The reinforcing strap is hidden behind the chassis and suspension. These are about the best I can do. This is on the RHS of a LHD M3W. The strap and attachment points are arrowed. The first photo is from the front of the car and the second one from the inside top of the RH front wheel.

Wilson those photos you have posted above show the steering rack mounting brackets.

This is the original lower wishbone mount with associated crack propagating from the weld.

This the modified lower wishbone bracket which extends further up the chassis vertical.

Rog,

I am going to query this with Morgan, as they confirmed just two weeks ago that my chassis was post modification. If you look at the image below of my new chassis, it appears unmodified to me. The rack mount seemed to be beefed up compared with the rack mount on my original 2012 chassis, which I assumed was providing extra bracing from top front to back rear wishbone mounts.

Wilson

PS Just warned my brother who has two M3W's of 2015/2016 vintage, as I doubt if he has received any warning and I don't think he keeps up with Talkmorgan.

Wilson, if you have a new chassis then it will not need this modification. The cracks in this area seem to only effect pre 2014 chassis cars and I believe, but may be wrong, that they are asking to inspect cars but only modifying if there is a crack visible as in my picture a couple of posts up.

Rog,

Maybe post 2014, the chassis makers (who are they? The chassis were not made in house, when I last looked), stopped buying their steel tubing from the Brittle As Toffee Steel Co of Guangzhou. I have put the question to MMC anyway with photographs. Only repairing chassis which are already cracked, really is bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted. Not too sure how the body that deals with vehicle recalls would feel about this lackadaisical approach. They have recently had a good kick up the backside from the National Audit Office, following their total inertia and lack of anything resembling a proactive approach, over the Vauxhall Zafira fires. Now that Morgan is no longer family owned I would not have a guilty conscience about blowing the whistle on them.

Can anyone remember some Vauxhall Vectra derived Saab models where the bulkhead used to part company with the inner wings.

The solution was to remove the engine and weld a repair patch in.....

Heard of it (through a retired mechanic friend). Think it only applied to cabriolet models, but might be wrong?
