Quite frankly I think Smith's (or actually Caerbont who produce the Smith's guages) should have fitted LEDs to all their instruments and sealed them some time back.

The LEDs do not generate so much heat as the incandescent bulbs so I have not experienced misting guages since fitting the LEDs.

Peter, that's quite interesting as I don't think anyone's considered the heat given off by ordinary bulbs could be a factor contributing to misting

Have VDO instruments on the boat. No misting and the instruments arent sealed - I have had to strip the tacho because damp bu66ered up the engine hours meter. Its a notorious problem with the Volvo instrument panel.

The best way of avoiding misting is ventialtion

To come back to the original post, Paddockman is this now sorted? It would be really useful for the rest of us to have an update?

In any case i hope it is and you are now enjoying the car! Please keep us in the loop!

Hi Steve

Thanks for the interest, I have the car booked in with the dealer early August, I must say that the advice given throughout is sound and the car is improving with each drive. The flat spot is still there and the dealer is looking in to a solution, however the rest of the car is settling in nicely.

I will feedback what they say but it seems some owners have similar engine characteristics whilst others pull cleanly, hopefully some ECU mapping may get it sorted. I don't want to head down the manifold route but I think it may be needed in my case, I may be oversensitive to the power delivery. The cost of the manifold is a slight concern, and what I've managed to find regarding ECU mapping for the GDI has been limited without the expense of a sports exhaust which I stayed away from when buying the car.

As for the suspension and steering I can only see improvements for the better with mileage.

The misting gauge - I have not had this issue since my last post, I will talk to the dealer and see their thoughts - That said it seems to provoke some reaction from folks that think it is part and parcel of ownership so I'll keep out of that conversation now.

Thanks again and fingers crossed but I now fully appreciate the advice that it needs 1000 miles before any judgment is made.
