^^ confirmed this isn't the issue (have had wheel off before. Also removed wheel from hub and left quick disconnect on shaft, actuated quick disconnect, pulled with all my body weight, it did not budge; needed a puller), thank you though!!

Since there does does not appear to be any damage to the splines, lubrication of several kinds and different amounts hasn't helped, the bolts/nuts aren't an issue, and it still doesn't work properly, I am just going to put the wheel back on the car and have my dealer look at it when I take it in for service.

It isn't that I'm concerned that anyone is going to tamper with the wheel it's that a relatively simple device should work as it was designed. The clearances for the shaft and the quick disconnect are simply too tight on my car.

Just a thought , the release mechanism will rotate around the steering column. It has holes in it to allow retraction so the bolts holding the quick release mechanism pass through these holes to extend the travel of the release mechanism. If it has got rotated so the bolts cant pass through , you cant move the release mechanism enough to release.
So , simply try rotating it until you can see the bolts moving into the holes , so you get an extra bit of movement and hopefully it will release.

You're right, it should work easily. My guess is you have a out of spec part, for some reason, that likely will never work right. Assuming its still under warranty, have the dealer replace it - assuming it behaves the same for them :-)

Nippymog, actually the Brooklands wheel has a different bolt pattern than the standard steering wheel and the quick release does not have pass through holes for this wheel's bolts.

I am going to have the dealer take a look at it when I bring it in this summer for my 1000 mile service. It is fortunately pretty easy to 'recreate' the problem.

Here’s another question about the steering wheel and its position.

Is it possible to rotate the wheel 180 degrees and put it back on? I realize the long bolt and safety nut might need a new hole on the locking flange but turning the wheel upside down would give a better view of the gauges.

Thoughts?

My friend faced the opposite - once he removed the steering we couldn't get it to "hold" back anymore. It ended up working out after we rotated the steering wheel itself about 30 degrees to the left. Only then did it engage again...

Could this be the opposite case for you ?

Just take the front cowl off then release the universal joint on the steering column just behind the engine, spin the wheel 180 and put the joint back together.
It is of course traditional to bolt everything back together and find that you're one spline out when you go for a drive...

Yes - a few of us have done this (RTCC did mine at the last service). You do it at the steering rack drive though...

Did you get one spline off when reassembled?
