Hello M3W Lovers.
I feel like I know many of the M3W forum members (I have PM'd some). Having been a lurker since last October it seems like time to introduce myself. My M3W originally came from Morgan West but I bought it last November in a fit of thriftiness and optimism. Stephen at Morgan West has since pronounced it road worthy. So far, it has only let me down once with a rectifier failure. Since I replaced the immolated unit with a Harley knockoff the car has been quite reliable. Ohlins (and a basic alignment in my garage) solved the bump steer problem although my chassis (#218 July 2012) is early enough to have been fitted with Suplex Shocks. I have found it to be straightforward to work on. My wife has ridden in it around the block. Pearl, my Westie is ready to go at a moment's notice. Just want to say I have appreciated the wealth of information on this website. Thank you.
-Dave
P.S. I did post photos in the General Photo Gallery.

Dave,

Welcome! This is indeed the place to learn about all Morgans, but especially the M3W as there is not a lot of solid information out there "in the wild" on these machines.
I guess because they have only been around for a few years vs the 110 for the original versions.

I see your car does not yet have the steering upgrade, aka "comfort steering kit". You've indicated the shocks eliminated the bump steer, but that's not really possible as bump steer is a product of the relative geometry between the control arms and the steering track rods. Different shocks may mask the effects of bump steer, but can't have a material impact on the geometry. Having driven machines with and without the steering kit, the difference to me was quite dramatic.

Steve

Dave, welcome to the controlled madness that is the 3 Wheeler, or 5 Speeder to some.

How do you like the Speaker LED headlamps?

Hi Dave, congratulations and welcome!

There is a big Morgan gathering coming this weekend in Cambria, CA: Mog West. Would be cool if you can join us!

I believe Dennis would still be able to register you.

Are you going to run up to Big Sur? Wish I could be there!

Welcome Dave,
Enjoy the M3W ( love the Westie, we have Cavalier King Charles spaniels and they love sitting in the "D" or the Morgan)

Hi Steve
Thanks for the welcome. I learn a lot every time I log in here.

Regarding the shocks, I expect you are right. I appreciate your comments. I haven't drive another 5-speeder so I have limited basis for comparison. I do know that before I installed the Ohlins bumps would make the vehicle jump sideways. Perhaps this effect was much less than on other 5-speeders without the steering kit. I can't say. Perhaps, as I have read, a July 2012 build with Suplex shocks has a different steering geometry than those fitted with Spax shocks. Then again, the change I experienced after mounting the Ohlins may have been due to improved performance of the more advanced (and expensive) shocks. If you ever make it out to the left coast, please drop. I would be delighted to have you drive it and make a first hand evaluation. At this point, I am entirely happy with the vehicle's road manners at present.

Hi Lightspeed,

Thank you for the welcome. The Speaker headlamps were one of the first changes I made. I expect that the original owner never drove the car at night because the headlamp housings were improperly adjusted. However, the Speakers are significantly brighter than OEM lamps. I also like their modern look which I think is consistent with how the 5-speeder is today's take on a timeless concept.

Cheers,
Dave
