I have family living 180 miles away with no possible recharging facilities so in a emergency I would need a 360 mile range.
I think in your position I'd be looking at a PHEV like a BMW 530e iPerformance with 29 miles of electric-only range (plenty for most short day trips and a 5-hour recharge off a home supply) but with a full 2.0 petrol engine for long distance work. My mate at work has been running the 330e for almost three years now and loves it, he's lucky in that he gets his daily commute done on the leccy range (just) and recharges each night

I have no idea whether this is just hearsay, but it seems if an electric vehicle is involved in an accident all sorts of health and safety stuff comes into play relative to recovery..?
For sure petrol and diesel have their H&S implications after an accident but all the services that might be involved are well up to speed in that regard.
Anyone got accurate info..?

Cooperman, I am neither for or against EV`s, that which I typed was in the hope of finding "accurate" information, and not seeking to create divisions, as if we do not have enough of that already in the UK if not elsewhere.. ?
With a possible replacement vehicle being required in a few months, an EV is on my list of options being considered.

No worries I wasn't having a pop, it's just that we get a bit anti EV on here at times As some will already know I'm on the 'positive' battery terminal as I've run two different BMW i3's for almost 4 years now, & trust me I'm definitely a petrol head of old

I have it on good authority - 2 Fireman have been killed, not dealing with EV's in the "correct way" - when attending a RTA or vehicle emergency.
Taking a balanced view I would also "assume" that the same has happened with petrol driven vehicles???
H&S in a right PITA...however, it might save your life!
