Bevel box out! all screws for the end plate apart from one snapped off! all stumps came out apart from one broke off just in the hole... Drill out tomorrow . Going to elongate centre mounting hole's shift box over to the left so belt runs more central .Thanks Planenut for that idea The BB looks wonky from the rear but looks square from inside, optical illusion i recon....BB out in under a hour!! had to drill out crap allen screws at bottom of back panel and pull 2x not fitted properly rivnuts....
OOOOO and my left hand fuel tank bracket has started to crack! so i get super appoxy from body shop and effect a repair with an extra plate... will do both sides as precautionary measure

Good work Skullmog. When positioning the BB try a straight edge or string between the outer faces of the front and rear sprockets to see if the alignment is right. Very tricky to do (I know) but it allows you to position the BB better as it is a difficult shape to get a visual reference on. Make sure the rear wheel is pointing square at the centre of the car first. I use a laser level on the side of the rear wheel aimed at a target on the back of the front number plate for that. When it is all correctly aligned the belt shouldn't be running hard up against any of the sprocket guide plates, front or rear. They should be guides, not restraints.

Glad you spotted the cracked tank bracket before it got worse, don't forget to do the lower ones as well as the fronts. Check the straps tension to reduce the tank bouncing.

I know there have been various iterations of the rear sprocket, some with and some without the outer flange. Have all bevel box gears had the outer flange?

As far as I know all the BB sprockets have an outer guide plate. The early rear sprockets that ran on the early (silver) hub did not have an outer plate and the belt usually runs slightly off the edge of the sprocket. The later (black) hubs had sprockets with inner and outer guide plates fitted, although there is no real need for the outer one if it all tracks well. The inner guide plate prevents the belt rubbing on the tyre sidewall and must be fitted.

My question about the guide or flange on the BB is due to several of us having had the belt rub and break the outer one on the rear sprocket. Makes me wonder if the breakage of the one on the BB (which is what it sounds like happened here) will be a common issue. Should/can it be removed and not replaced?

The same thing happened to me during a race at Anglesey. The belt then tried to eat it’s way through the shock absorber

I don’t have HVH and found that the back plate to the bevel box was bent and pulling away from the lower cross tube at the welds. This is something worth checking out!!!

In my case I got MMC to repair, but the new welds weren’t up to the job. I fitted the Bleazey BB mounting kit to sort the problem
