Which Redline did you use?

I drove mine long enough to heat the oil, pulled into the garage, and placed a low oil pan under the BB. I unscrewed the big lower drain plug, and let the hot goop flow out.

I opened the upper fill plug just above the drain, and let it all stay open and dripping overnight.

I plugged the bottom drain, and refilled the top port until it back dripped.

I plugged the upper fill port, made sure all was tight, and went for a ride.

I did this 4 times, using Moroso Climbing Lube, drained it hot each time, and got more of the black goop out each time.

By the 4th oil hot oil change, the fluid coming out was the same color as what was going in, and the BB is now, well almost, quiet.

I think that is all referring to a short time in 2013 or 2014 when Morgan tried an additive in the Bevel Box oil to make it a little quieter. The additive didn't work and made the lubricant form into a sludge. It was to remove this sludge and get some proper lubricant into the BB that this procedure was carried out. Not something needed now as long as you use a good quality BB lubricant.

It now runs very quiet and I haven’t noticed even one drop leaking through the vent. Think about it....all the differentials like a Ford 9 is filled at least half way full.

Careful !
I suspect but cannot prove that overfilling the box in this way caused the front oil seal to start leaking.
The vent was clear and no oil was lost via the vent at that time.

I have drained mine once. What came out looked fairly clean. Maybe Morgan has done something different with the newer ones????

I do know that my bevel box really makes a very loud whine and if changing fluids to something a bit more high tech would help fix it I certainly am onboard for doing it.

The Morgan-certified mechanic at MorganWest also recommended to overfill it slightly. I might try it the next time.

Interesting. I wish I lived near such a dealer.

I did the same back in 2014.

I drained the box over night and virtually nothing came out. This was after 2 dealer services!!!

So I flushed it out with diesel a few times then ran it up to temp. on axle stands with some cheap 20/50 until what came out was pretty clean.

I have used Millers EP140 ever since and it is pretty quiet relatively speaking.

BTW it makes a right racket running it on diesel.

I wouldn't recommend overfilling the bevel gearbox. The oil level is one of the things that can be worked out easily in the design and overfilling it just adds to the friction and heat build up. The level plug is there for a reason and the vent plug is there for a different reason.

and often the overfill just is shoved out the vent
