And third, cut the thing off with a plier, substute it with a piece of black string that you tie in a little loop with a knot in a figure of eight, large enough to get a good grip.

A shoemaker should be able to provide a leather string, which you can get in several thicknesses. An elegant car (nice brookland wheel and all...) deserves an elegant solution, even in details.

I have a short length of black cord looped through the zip pull. It stops the rattling and allows easier access to the zip pull. However, SBM’s solution does have a simple elegance.  (Rather like SBM?  )
