Hi
2 of those 4 are fan relays I believe. One low speed and the other high speed driven from the ecu. Difficult to say for sure which position in the bank they might be in because it’s a Morgan…. The only sure way would be to buzz them through. The thick wires on the relays go to the large caged resistor in front of the radiator.

If your fan is not working check the 20p fan connector. Mine went intermittent and I replaced it.

As this is a “High Temp” thread somebody might be interested in this little fix that could save an expensive repair. The little fan connector protecting the engine has a finite life and you may or may not notice that it has failed. Fortunately I noticed mine had failed so snipped it off and replaced it with a 57A ceramic connector block. The advantage of the bigger 57A block is that there is room to double clamp each wire.

Regarding testing the fan, the ecu will kick the fan in at slow speed when the head sensor reaches 101C (about 106C for high speed). Use an OBD tool to monitor the temp not the gauge, that’s slow and useless. Or if you have the Ford IDS software you can just run a fan check test woohoo

Rog, nice solution, mine had corroded unseen under the crimping giving high elect resistance, so I took everything apart and used new spades but soldered - but it's difficult to access in-situ

Result!

I looked at the connector first. Unfortunately the wires are very short and the connectors are hard to reach. From the outside everything looked good.

Then I decided to check the relays first, because I don't have much time at the moment.

My car is a 4/4 1,8 Duratec 2005/2006 left hand drive.

The arrangement of the relays is like on the picture of DaveW, only the wiper relay is on the left side.

The fuel pump relay is also no. 4 from the left (I could feel it working with my fingers) so I decided to gamble.

I exchanged the first two relays from the left (I sell motorcycle parts but I didn't get more than 2 relays from my supplier so quickly).
I took HELLA relays (also with diode and 40A).

In my 4/4 were not the here often described Bosch relays BOSCH-No.: 0332014112 with 30A fittet (these relas were replaced by 0986AH0602 with 40A) instead of this BOSCH relay were 5 relays (40A) without any manufacturer lable fitted.

A test drive in Hamburg (much stop and go) showed that the fan started again, I could even hear the relay of the fan working when I wasn't driving.

So thank you for your help! cheers

Next I have to change a windscreen washer nozzle (release the dasboaard again banghead).

And then I wait for 30 Wind deflectorscreens which I had made by a company so that I can replace my old torn winddeflector.
These are without the countersunk holes and are mounted with shiny flat stainless steel screws to prevent problems with the countersunk holes.

Nice work and some useful info. Very satisfying when you nail the issue. It’s a shame the relays are in such a horrible location on our cars.

I also replaced my connector. It too failed.

Hi, I did wonder about that but it'd be a rather hairy arsed way to do it on a small plastic bladed fan. Anyway there's no vibration and it runs much more quietly since so I'm happy with it. The comment above about the ECM cut in settings is interesting and seems to tie in with what's happening on mine. Anyway I'm happy that the running temperatures are as they should be.
